Skating a banked track training camp was one of the items on my list that I was the most eager to cross off. I have been involved in roller derby since 2006 and have very limited access to banked tracks. I was able to attend both the LA Derby Doll’s March Radness and San Diego Derby Doll’s Playing with Fire Bootcamp in 2012. The majority of my experience in derby has been with flat track and I knew that transitioning my skills to banked track would be difficult. However, both training camps had stellar trainers that made it both fun and easy to try to play roller derby on a banked track. The classes that I took during the bootcamps ranged from hitting, to footwork, to learning how to use the track to your advantage. I looking forward to attending March Radness again in 2013!
