Taking the drop in trapeze class at the San Francisco Circus Center is something that I have always wanted to do. It was one of the first things that I put on my 30 before 30 list. I got a small group of friends together and reserved our spots. The class was held early last Saturday morning and I could barely sleep the night before because I was so excited! The class began with some basic instructions on a static bar (how to hold onto the bar and how to kick you legs back to get your knees around the bar). After the quick instructions we put on our harnesses and worked on getting the basic swing down. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it was going to be (probably because I took a rock climbing class earlier this year). On my first try I totally failed at kicking my legs back and get my knees around the bar! After watching everyone in the class go through I was eager to give it another try. My second attempt was successful and I was able to get my knees around the bar (the video link below is of this try). After everyone went through a second time it was then time to try to do a catch with one of the instructors. Everything happened so fast and I didn’t really have time to get nervous or to over think things. I just listened to the instructors and just went for it. I could not believe that I had successfully made a catch; I thought that I was going to mess up and whack the instructor in the head!
Check out a video my my first catch on the trapeze!
